Internationally, Usher has re-exploded in virtually every major market, as Confessions (Special Edition) rises from #10 to #3 in Canada (where it is 4- times platinum) from #32 to #10 in England (where it is 3-times platinum) and from #32 to #23 in Holland (where it is gold). Britney recently received three European Video Music Awards. Each package opens with "My Prerogative," her latest single and video, currently on more than 100 Top 40 radio stations and in rotation on MTV, VH1 and The Fuse. The CD will contain 20 songs, while the limited-edition interactive DVD (housing a bonus remix CD) will gather all 20 of Britney's hit videos since 1999. With two albums in the top 10, and combined sales this week of more than 400,000 units on those two titles alone - the Zomba Label Group (ZLG) continues to dominate retail in a BIG way.Īdding to Zomba's success, and waiting to hit the charts in four weeks are Jive recording artist Britney Spears' Greatest Hits: My Prerogative, her first-ever CD and DVD collections, set to arrive in stores on November 9th. At the same time, Sho'nuff/LaFace recording artist Ciara's debut album Goodies moves to #3 R&B and #10 Pop (after debuting at #1/R&B and #3/Pop last week). Needless to say, the time is right for the phrase "just another" to be banned from use when discussing him.LaFace recording artist Usher's Confessions (Special Edition) has posted an unprecedented 709% Soundscan sales increase this week, jumping from #24 to #2 on the Billboard 200 Albums charts and to #1 on the Hot R&B/ Hip-Hop Albums chart. Numerous chart hits have spun off each of his albums. Another pair - the upbeat "Caught Up" and the aptly titled "Burn" - also rate as some of the vocalist's best moments yet. A small batch of Jam & Lewis productions, including the effortlessly gliding "Truth Hurts," continue to help raise Usher's loverman stock. The following "Throwback," produced by Just Blaze, sounds like it was made for the sole purpose of trailing Alicia Keys' "You Don't Know My Name." Like that hit, "Throwback"'s sensitively treated soul sample provides a nostalgic tint that complements the wistful, regret-filled tone of the lyrics. "Yeah!"'s crunk-meets-R&B foundation, featuring an instantly addictive eight-note keyboard vamp and one of Usher's most muscular turns, is so absorbing that Ludacris' 1500th guest verse floats by with little notice. On the other side of the coin, the smartest move Usher makes here is in allowing the Lil Jon-produced "Yeah!" to take its rightful place as the only club track any attempt at doing something stylistically similar would've failed miserably in its presence. At an hour in duration, it could be stripped of five songs and be far more powerful, especially since no one would have to do any wading to get to the meaty parts. Confessions' most detracting factor is its length.
